STEPHEN MACKINNON
Handicap: 28.0
Bernie wheel spun his way into the Breadalbane in 2011 at Oulton Hall near Leeds. The ex-Scotland rugby youth spent the weekend jumping bunkers in his buggy, as well as managing to beach it on a tree trunk at one point.
He then took a year out before returning to competitive action at The Essex, narrowly avoiding the Green Jacket by finishing just ahead of Jason Kerr. He repeated that trick at Dalmahoy the following year, beating Miles Shaw by 1 point to avoid the bottom spot; although he did pick up the team prize in Edinburgh.
That proved to be his final appearance for 8 years but the big man made a return in 2022 at Wokefield and will be teeing it up in La Cala for BBXX. Finishing bottom of the pile in 2022, he showed an improvement at Heron's Reach and claimed his first point for Taymouth in The Rider Cup by beating Miles Shaw in the Sunday singles. However, just 1.5 points from a possible 9 in Rider Cup shows room for improvement and he is yet to taste victory having missed Belton Woods in 2025.
